Kestrel

What this shows

Why it was made

Kestrel is a camera that guesses where a car is going and warns kids, or drops a gate, before the car reaches them. This page shows where that matters most in Congressional District 32, which covers much of the west San Fernando Valley, Brentwood and Pacific Palisades.

How it was counted

  • Each crash is one LAPD report where a car hit someone walking.
  • Crashes per square mile use only the part of each neighborhood inside the district. Neighborhoods with less than half their land inside are shown in gray.
  • The trend counts only crashes where someone was killed or badly hurt, because from 2021 people could report minor crashes online and those are missing.
  • The records end on March 8, 2025, so 2025 covers only January to early March.
